FAQ
What is a Physician Assistant?
Physician Assistants (PAs) are licensed clinicians who practice medicine in every specialty and setting. PAs are nationally certified, rigorously trained professionals who diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications.
Who is our provider?
National Mental Health Physician Assistant Corporation (NMHPAC) was founded by Yeon Kim, a board-certified physician assistant with a deep commitment to mental health care. Yeon earned a Doctor of Medical Science with a concentration in Psychiatry from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and a Master of Medical Science and Public Health from Acadia University. His dedication to healthcare was solidified during his two years of service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Benin, where he witnessed firsthand the profound impact of accessible medical care. Through NMHPAC, Yeon strives to support individuals and families in need, providing compassionate, high-quality mental health services to strengthen communities and improve overall well-being.
Can a Physician Assistant prescribe medicine?
Yes, Physician Assistants (PAs) can prescribe medication, including controlled substances, in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. However, their prescribing authority varies by state and is regulated by state medical or PA boards.
What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine is the use of digital technology, like video calls and mobile apps, to provide remote healthcare services. It allows patients to consult with health care providers, get prescriptions, and manage chronic conditions without visiting a clinic. Telemedicine improves access to care, saves time, and is especially helpful for those in remote areas or with mobility issues.
How does telemedicine work?
- Scheduling an Appointment – Patients book a virtual consultation through a healthcare provider’s website, app, or a telemedicine platform.
- Virtual Consultation – Using video conferencing, phone calls, or chat, the doctor assesses symptoms, reviews medical history, and provides a diagnosis.
- Prescriptions and Follow-ups – If needed, the doctor can prescribe medication electronically and schedule follow-ups.
What happens if I miss an appointment?
Please cancel or reschedule your appointment within 24 hours if you cannot make it. Cancellation and rescheduling are always free, as we understand that life happens. However, due to the national shortage of mental health providers, we kindly ask that if you are unable to attend, you cancel or reschedule as soon as possible. This allows us to offer the appointment slot to others who may urgently need support. Your consideration helps ensure that more individuals receive the support they need.
No-shows or same-day cancellation policy
We kindly request that you avoid no-show appointments or same-day cancellations. While we do not impose any charges for these occurrences, we ask that you consider the impact on others who may be in need of our services. Your cooperation and understanding in this matter are greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us serve everyone more effectively.
What if I am having a mental health crisis?
At National Mental Health Physician Assistant Corporation (NMHPAC), we are committed to providing timely and compassionate mental health support through same-day appointments when available. However, please be advised that we do not offer emergency services. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please dial 911 or visit your nearest emergency room immediately to ensure your safety and receive the urgent care you need.
Do we take insurance?
We are actively engaging with insurance companies to expand our services, although the medical credentialing process is both challenging and time-consuming. We remain optimistic about finalizing contracts with these partners in the future. At this time, out-of-pocket payments are the only available option.
However, we offer a risk-free first 30 minutes of the initial assessment. If you feel that the initial session does not meet your expectations, please inform your provider immediately, and we will issue a full refund. For more information, please visit our Payment Section.
Why only California?
Due to the complexity of current healthcare compliance rules and regulations, we are presently accepting patients exclusively in California. However, we remain committed to a forward-thinking approach and are actively exploring opportunities to expand our services to additional states in the future. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these challenges and look forward to the opportunity to serve a broader community soon.
